TI has announced a half-duplex RFID mini-transponder, which it says is the industry’s smallest, that enables tags to be embedded into smaller objects across a broader range of applications. The 12mm TRPGR30TGC and TRPGP40TGC glass encapsulated mini-transponders are ready-to-use and are backwards compatible with all of TI’s RFID software and readers including power modules, control modules and micro readers.

The manufacturing of RFID antennas through the process of etching is being challenged by a new patented technology. Developed by Finland-based Walki, Walki-4E technology is a new way of producing flexible circuit boards using a dry process and paper as the substrate, which the company says is the first real alternative to the wet, chemical based process of etching. The company says Walki-4E is both efficient and sustainable. It also allows for computer to antenna production and extremely accurate laser cutting of the circuit board patterns.

AgoraBee has developed what it claims is the world's lowest cost global fleet tracking solution using Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF24L01+ 2.4GHz transceivers. The ChisFleet fleet global tracking solution from AgoraBee tracks valuable assets such as trailers, trucks, and their cargo using RFID-style RF tags that can run for up to five years from a coin cell, at a solution cost that AgoraBee claims is 10x lower than traditional GPS-based alternatives.

Maxim’s new line of RFID keys and cards features a 13.56MHz interface. The company says 13.56MHz is becoming the worldwide standard for access control and e-payment applications, with some regions of the world deploying it for passport and national ID cards. This new contactless RFID product family (the MAX66000/020/040/100/120/140) uses the company's 1-Wire secure authentication ICs, which protect intellectual property in embedded systems. They are designed for the two-billion-units-per-year automatic identification, access control, and electronic cash (e-cash) markets.
