Broadcom has announced that it has agreed terms with the board of Cirencester, UK, based Innovision Research & Technology on a cash offer to acquire all of Innovision's shares.
Broadcom Corporation, headquartered in Irvine, California, is one of the world's largest fabless communications semiconductor companies, specialising in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications to enable the delivery of voice, video, data and multimedia to and throughout the home, the office and the mobile environment.
Innovision is a leading developer of near-field communication (NFC) and RFID technology, and last week also launched Topaz-512, a low-cost 512 byte tag, to help develop opportunities for non-payment applications of NFC such as business cards, automatic SMS messaging and digital content delivery through smart posters. Topaz-512 is available in a number of form factors, from cards and stickers to key-fobs and waterproof laundry tags, and is compatible with any NFC-certified mobile phone or other device.
