In order to comply with the standards ISO 13849 and IEC 62061, the PLD manufacturer Altera has chosen to cooperate with the TÜV Rheinland: Together with this German safety certification body, the company has created a pre-qualified development tool chain, including safety manuals and safety intellectual property (IP) cores for its FPGAs. The TÜV-qualified industrial safety data package for automation applications may speed up development time for at least two years, says Frank Förster, Market Development Manager Industrial at Altera confidently.
