The French government is toughening its stance on the EU REACH regulations.
It will now enforce criminal sanctions against any company breaching the REACH directive. Among the chemicals cited in REACH are many used by the electronics industry.
"Such offences including the failure to stop using a banned substance or failure to register a substance will be deemed criminal," according to Environ, the compliance agency. Though the sanctions to be take have yet to be released Environ says that earlier drafts of the law suggested a maximum two years imprisonment and a 75,000 Euro fine.
