Avnet has strengthened its position in the IT channel buying Bell Microproducts for $252m.
Bell's presence in the fast-growing Latin America market was just one of the attractions for Avnet. Roy Vallee (pictured), chief executive officer of Avnet commented, "We are very excited about the opportunity to build additional scale and scope in storage and computing solutions."
Bell's position in datacentre products and embedded systems complements Avnet's current strategies and creates opportunities for cross selling," he added.
He also cited Bell's position as a leader in hard disk drive distribution which will substantially increase Avnet's exposure to the product which is currently focused on embedded computing.
Bell's sales in 2009 were about $3m and it was forecasting sales of $795m to $815m in the first quarter of this year.
