According to UK industry trade association afdec/ecsn in 2009, the UK DTAM (distribution total available market) declined 11.3 per cent to £930m. That is an improvement on the original forecast of a 13.1 per cent decline to £912m. The fourth quarter was stronger than anticipated according to afdec/ecsn analyst Aubrey Dunford, boosted by a strong performance in the semiconductor sector.
Dunford is more upbeat about 2010 forecasting a modest two per cent rise in the DTAM to £948m. He predicts a recovery in most market segments. The semiconductor sector will continue to lead the move forward by growing four per cent to £451m against £434m in 2009. E-mech components look set for a three per cent rise, passives will also see a three per cent increase, as will component assemblies.
