The conference titled "After the Crisis" - not too previous an assumption we hope - is being held on October 6/7 and will run alongside the Forum d'Electronique exhibition.
I must say that Farnell Europe president Andy King's presentation sounds a corker. "Electronics - the next 1000 Days" takes the electronics industry's impact on every day life as its starting point, and proposes how the industry will need to be faster on its feet, get closer to customers and be bold.
Georg Steinberger, vice president of communications at Avnet is never short of an opinion (he has in his past been editor in chief of Markt & Teknik). If you think you know where distribution is headed, you might think again once you've heard Georg speak on "The End of the Classical Distribution Model."
TTI's European president Gene Conahan will offer an interesting insight into how the current economic crisis has created higher expectations from customers and suppliers. "What Got You Here, Won't Get You There" is the pithy title of his presentation and he will be describing paths distributors can take to Get There.
Suppliers are well represented too. Pierre Laboisse, vice president worldwide distribution at NXP will step up to the plate and talk on "Customer Focus and Passion to Win". Distributor/supplier relationships, his view of the "after the crisis" scenario and the semiconductor ecosystem will be worth catching. Eric Lalardie will pitch up for the fabless semiconductor ranks bringing a view from outside the mainstream semiconductor industry.
Alexander Schenkel, director, AVX and Mark Jones, chief operating officer and managing director of Omron Electronics Europe will speak for the passive and electromechanical components sectors.
Leading the customers will be Gilles Benhamou, president Asteel Flash whose theme is "Crisis Impact on the EMS Companies and the Vision after the Crisis".
The bigger picture will be addressed by Walt Custer, president Custer Consulting Group. "The Business Outlook for the Global Electronics Industry" will have everybody sitting up straight and paying attention as he looks at, among other topics, the likely recovery path of the key levels of the electronic food chain.
cintelliq chief executive officer Craig Cruikshank will provide an inside look at the growing organic (plastic) electronics market.
Wolfram Ziehfuss, general manager of FBDI, the German distributors trade association will be there, as will other speakers representing the members of the International Distributors of Electronics Association (IDEA). Each of them will present the view from their local markets.
Alongside the conference, there will be plenty of networking opportunities.
