The word 'geeks' features prominently in this tale, don't let it put you off.
It's part of a clever maneuvre by Digi-Key which is seeing plenty of interest in Freescale Semiconductor's Tower System development platform. So much so that it has developed a website - www.towergeeks.org- to gather an online engineering community around the product.
"We're very excited about TowerGeeks," enthused Mark Larson (pictured), president and chief operating officer of Digi-Key. "It's a place for engineers to share their ideas via the chat room and the forum. With some cool prizes at stake, it's a place for fun and little friendly competition too. It's going to be interesting to see what engineers have in mind for these cutting edge products"
During this month Digi-Key is providing prizes for the First Tower System Challenge. To qualify you first buy a Tower platform and and show it in a video while discussing what you plan to do with it.
The first 25 Geek members to meet the First Tower System Challenge video requirements win a TowerGeeks t-shirt. Hang on, it gets better! The Geek of the Week title goes to the member whose video gets the most views. A $25 Visa gift card is the reward.
And a Kindle2 wireless reading device and the Geek of the Month title will be conferred on the member whose video gets the most views in July.
The Tower System, by the way is, a modular, reconfigurable development platform which supports Freescale's 8-, 16- and 32-bit microcontrollers, comprised of three types of modules - microcontrollers, peripherals and elevator modules
