Big day coming up on Thursday for Michael Long, the President and Chief Executive Officer of Arrow Electronics.
He will be the lead participant in one of North America's and New York's iconic moments - ringing the closing bell to signify the end of business for the day on the New York Stock Exchange. One of the nice features of being invited down to Wall Street is that you can bring some friends with you, and Long will be accompanied by members of Arrow's global sales force to recognise their dedication and commitment.
There is something reassuring about these old traditions in a modern world. It would be easy to replace the bell with some automatic method like the hooter that sounds at the end of rugby league games. The temptation has thankfully been resisted and the bell tradition lives on.
