Gleichmann Electronics now has available fully certified software libraries - approved by the VDE (German Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) Testing and Certification Institute - for NEC Electronics Europe’s 8-bit and 16-bit 78K0/78K0R microcontroller families.
The software libraries will, says Gleichmann, simplify the testing and end product approval for compliance with the requirements of the IEC 60730-1/60335-1, Class B safety standards.
Class B of the IEC 60730-1/60335-1 safety standards requires the software of microcontroller-based equipment - such as electric cookers, dishwashers, washing machines and other motor control applications - to have the capability for self-diagnosis of safety critical functions. This includes memory, peripheral and system frequency tests performed during CPU run-time, which are supported by the 78K0 MCU families with additional on-chip safety elements, such as an internal watchdog with separate system clock and fail-safe clock circuitry.
With the fully certified software libraries, end equipment manufacturers now do not need to develop their own self-test programs. The software and its associated documentation are available upon request and free of charge from Gleichmann Electronics and NEC Electronics Europe’s Industrial Business Unit.
