What looks to be a highly informative conference covering the latest on EU legislation as it affects the electronics industry will take place later this year.
The conference titled, Electrical and Electronic Equipment and the Environment 2009 - Meeting the Technical and Regulatory Issues, is being organised by the UK's Electrical Research Association and Cobham. The venue is the Sheraton Skyline Hotel, and the dates are November 17/18.
Speakers will be from all parts of the industry spectrum, including Iain Nicol representing the UK's Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), Dr Johan Nouwen from the European Chemicals Agency, Intel's Julian Lageard and Chris Robertson of Cobham Technical Services - ERA Technology. Legal experts, industry associations and distributors will also be presenting papers.
And as the organisers indicate there will be plenty to chew over. The EcoDesign Directive will be discussed. This regulation already covers standby products, external power supplies, lighting and set-top boxes and it is certain more products will be announced with their date for compliance, throughout the year.
If that's not enough on your plate, the consider the China RoHS and US requirements which could cause the odd migraine for exporters. And of course there will be new proposals to strengthen WEEE and RoHS Directives with further steps to reduce the environmental impact of equipment.
So plenty to discuss and talk about with fellow attendees. If you want more information on the conference go to http://www.era.co.uk/conference2009/index.asp
