Michael Long is to take over as chief executive officer of Arrow Electronics on May 1 this year.
He succeeds Bill Mitchell who has held the job since 2003. Mitchell will remain as chairman until the end of the year to ensure a seamless transition. Long joined Arrow in 1991 when the company acquired Schweber Electronics where he held various management positions. In 1994 he became president of Capstone Electronics and next year headed up the Gates/Arrow operation. He then became president of Arrow's north America and Asia/pacific operations.
He has been president and chief operating officer of the company since March last year.
