If you aren't in, you can't win goes the old adage. So it is disappointing to hear of a certain ennui from European engineers, students and academics.
So far they lag behind in entering Premier Farnell's Live EDGE (Electronic Design for the Global Environment) design competition. The company reckons the majority of entries so far have arrived from engineers in the US, China and India. And if the European electronics community want to make a challenge it had better hurry as entries close on January 31.
There are student and general/open competitions and the winners of each collect a $25,000 cash prize and support and services valued at a similar amount. Three runners up in each competition win $5,000.
Harriet Green, chief executive officer of Premier Farnell is, looking forward to the judging process.
"We look forward yet again to yet again experiencing the brilliance of our customers around the globe," she said. "I look forward to seeing this year's winners and helping to bring their designs to market."
