Premier Farnell is stepping up a gear in eastern Europe by signing an agreement to acquire part of the assets and trading rights of Microdis Electronics.
Microdis, which is part of Microdis Holdings AG has been an authorised distributor for Farnell in Poland, the Czech Republic and Hungary for the past six years.
"We are delighted to be able to build upon the work Microdis Electronics and Farnell have already established with the electronic design engineering community in eastern Europe," said Rob Rospedzihowski (pictured), Managing Director, eastern Europe for Premier Farnell. "This move further demonstrates Premier Farnell's commitment to focus on profitably growing international markets. Our customers in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic will continue to benefit from the same high levels of support from our local teams as well as continued access to the growing range of Premier Farnell products and services.
The deal significantly increases Premier Farnell's direct customer reach in eastern Europe. Local language web sites will give engineers the ability to access 475,000 products and next day delivery.
The deal also gives the company a prime position in the three east Europe countries where there has been a significant increase in local product design to complement successful contract manufacturing segments.
As Rospedzihowski points ou, Microdis was one of the first distributors in east Europe to offer applications support, as well as sales, when it created a product marketing department in 1997.
