It's pretty much accepted that around the world, distributors make up between 24% to 27% of total sales of semiconductors.
Taking a closer look, many suppliers are more reliant on their network to sell their products, especially the start-ups which have no local sales force.
I don't think I've seen a reliance quite like that of Vitesse Semiconductor on Nu Horizons. In It's form 10-K submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Vitesse reveals that in fiscal 2008 Nu Horizons and its subsidiary Titan Supply Chain Services accounted for 48.8% and 9.2% respectively of Vitesse net revenues. In 2007 it was 50.1% and 6.1%.
As Vitesse notes sales to distributors were 76% of revenues in 2008 and 78% in 2007. I'd say that's a pretty good partnership those two have pulled together.
