I'll get the bad news out of the way in one day. Following up on iSuppli's forecast, UK-based IMS Research has focused on the power semiconductor sector.
It estimates power semiconductor, discrete and module revenues will fall by over $1bn in 2009 with power MOSFETs taking the brunt of the decline. It reckons in the current recession the markets in computer and office, consumer and automotive applications will be worst hit and will spend $0.9bn less in 2009 on power discrete components alone.
Says analyst Josh Flood,"We expect the economic trading conditions to worsen in 2009, and even the fastest growing economies, India and China will start to feel the pinch. We do not expect the power semiconductor sector revenues to recover to its 2008 revenues until 2011. However all is not doom and gloom, the power module market's renewable energy segment is estimated to grow by 51% in 2008 and continue with strong growth for the next five years.
