Our sister publication EDN (www.edn.com) published its top 10 globaldistributors by sales in 2007 earlier this year
They were:
1. Avnet
2. Arrow
3. World Peace Group
4. Future Electronics
5. Bell Microproducts
6. Electrocomponents
7. Premier Farnell
8. TTI/Mouser
9. Digi-Key
10. Nu Horizons
So the question is how will the list change in 2008? I don't see a lot of movement. The top two are out of sight of the rest. Further down the order I'd say Digi-Key has the best chance of making up a place or two. Sales there are projected to top $1bn for the first time. 2009 might be the year for a shake-up. The ambitious World Peace Group must surely make a move in Europe - it was pipped at the post for Memec not so long ago. Avnet may stretch its lead at the top. Roy Vallee has stated it will still pursue acquisitions despite the prevailing economic storms. And if Digi-Key can keep up its average 21per cent CAGR over the past five years it will fancy its chances of climbing another notch
