Manufacturing and engineering get a tough time these days. All eyes focus on the west's increasingly service-based economies, and a fat lot of good that has done us.
In the UK, Lord Mandelson, Seretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform, made clear UK manufacturing and engineering contributes £150bn to the UK plc coffers. He wants the UK's assets of skills and innovation to flourish.
RS Components is making a more modestcontribution to engineering, nevertheless it is encouraging to see it backing a new Centre for Engineering Excellence in cahoots with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). It's a brand new £2.1m state of the art facility which will provide design and motorsport engineering students with access to the latest industry standard equipment. The University is also involved in research and commercial development and will house a product design, development and research unit."As an engineering focused business we aim to assist and encourage any engineer, young or old, to better themselves and learn new skills. We are delighted to support UWS which is just one of our sponsorship agreements aimed at helping engineers progress in their careers through developing their skills," said Julian Wood, Market Development Manager, Process, Control and Automation at RS Components.
