Ah, the allure of the East! As the Chinese electronics market grows, so does the interest of the distribution community. Two more investments were announced this week.
Mouser Electronics, currently on a growth spurt in Europe and Asia, has decided on Shanghai as the perfect location for a China Customer Service Centre. And if it's good enough for Marks & Spencer Yorkshire Puddings(http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2008/oct/03/marksspencer.retail) then there must be a market for semiconductors and power supplies. Mouser's Vice President, Asia, Mark Burr-Lonnon sees the centre as an enhancement of his company's ability to support local design engineers and small production buyers throughout Asia, and especially in China. Mouser also has support centres in Hong Kong and Singapore
On the same day Digi-Key unveiled its dedicated website for China. The content has been fully translated into simplified Chinese. "We are very pleased to introduce our website for China," commented Mark Larson, President and Chief Operating Officer of Digi-Key. He added that Digi-Key will publish a Chinese print catalogue later in the year to support the web site. The web site which is at www.digikey.com.cn gives access to a broad range of products and buying information. Technical support is available from the company's HQ in Thief River Falls, which is open round the clock, 365 days a year.
