Time I think for a quick round up of the latest news in the distribution world, especially as Europe's super show, electronica (the lower case e is correct by the way) is not too far away.
If you need to talk to a distributor well the gang's all going to be there - all the Arrow companies, all the Avnet companies, Rutronik, Acal, Abacus, Digi-Key, Farnell, Future, RS Components and a number of smaller, local distis. Mouser will set up shop on the stand of TTI, its sister company. When I met Europe vice president Mark Burr-Lonnon last month he promised more signings and he is as good as his word. ELECTRONIC ASSEMBLY (which spells its name in capitals, an irritating trait) has brought its top quality LCD function modules to the Mouser line card. The Mansfield, Texas-based distributor will be stocking up on THE COMPANY WHICH SPELLS ITS NAME IN CAPITAL LETTER's intelligent graphic displays, fitting LED backlights, control units with touch panels and dual in line package character and graphic modules.
Rutronik is a long time partner of NEC (these capital letters are an acronym and thus OK) and it has now extended its agreement with the Japanese company to encompass the UK and Ireland. I'm delighted to see my old pal Haroon Rashid is steering NEC's Industrial and Distribution unit and it is he I shall quote.
"The importance of distribution as a sales channel is growing rapidly. This we focus on the potential and necessary resources of our partners to serve the broad sweep of our target markets - naturally with a correspondingly high level of penetration."
Rutronik's Managing Director of Sales and Marketing, Thomas Rudel (pictured) is aiming to generate 50% of new sales via his company's design-in strategy.
Discontinued products, eh, continue to be good business. Rochester Electronics has signed up as a distributor for Gennum to help its customers fill orders when products reach end of life status.
