Engineers of the electronics world, there are no excuses now. A major competition opened for business late last week, and it will call on the engineering community's ingenuity to devise classy solutions.
On the broader stage, Premier Farnell's Live-EDGE competition is now open for entries. The subtitle is Electronic Design for the Global Environment. And the point is to design products using electronic components which will positively impact the environment. The deadline date for entries is January 31, 2009. To add some spice and partly to I suspect to try to avoid the last minute rush of entries which accompanies most competitions in my experience, Premier Farnell has an incentive in place.
Entrants who submit their completed designs early will automatically be entered into a monthly regional draw held at the end of October, November and December this year. One winner from each region, that's Europe/Asia, the Americas and Greater China, will be selected to receive $2000 to help move their designs forward. They all stay of course in the main competition too. To support the competition Premier Farnell is hosting Live EDGE programmes which include a series of technical learning and network events held in the Live EDGE EcoSphere. The first event is on October 15 and will cover Designing for Energy Efficiency. Attendees will be able to chat live with semiconductor and component manufacturer representatives including the competition sponsors, National Semiconductor; Ohmite and Vishay. Technical videos and White Paper will be available for downloading.
