The UK-based distributor Abacus is giving away, yup you read it right, 500 ultra high energy density batteries in a special offer to promote the Varta lithium polymer battery product, which is targeting a whole range of hand held applications.
The batteries market under the somewhat convoluted title of PoLiFlex. Abacus is excited about their energy density and battery life, low self-discharge, and long service life. Importantly for engineers looking to work with the product, Abacus can offer a design and customisation service on PoLiFlex technology, working with customers to develop single or multi-cell battery packs to their requirements.
According to Abacus Battery Product Manager, Tim Parker, “More and more customers are designing hand held systems requiring batteries". He sees typical applications including ticket and other electronic payment systems, medical instruments, tracking systems and main power source batteries for computers.
The good news too is that PoLiFlex technology is also relatively environmentally friendly to manufacture, as it contains no heavy metals and no free, liquid electrolytes.
