I thought only Burger King did Whoppers. I was wrong. Digi-Key has just launched its new print catalogue in the US and Canada. It features just the small matter of more than 18,000 new products featuring 2,560 pages of products from the company’s 391 supplier partners.
It is a catalogue and a reference book and I know these publications are revered by engineers. Stroll around any development department in the UK, and RS Components’ catalogue sits hugger-mugger with the Farnell tome. Materials and purchasing managers value these books too. Digi-Key’s new edition includes new products and technologies from the many suppliers they have hitched up with over the past 12 months as well as established manufacturers. In this latest edition they include 3M, Alpha & Omega Semiconductor, AVX, EPCOS, FCI, Finisar, FTDI, HI-TECH Software, Johanson Technology, Laird Technology, Lambda, Murata, Omron, TDK, and Tyco Electronics.
"Although it is a longtime staple of the electronic component and distribution industry, there is nothing mundane about the Digi-Key catalogue," says Mark Larson, president and chief operating officer. "Every edition features not only the tried and true but new and innovative products from the manufacturers with which we partner."
And if you see a product in the catalogue, like it and want to buy it Digi-Key guarantees to have it in its inventory. In addition to the US and Canadian version Digi-Key publishes 20 versions for distribution in Asia and Europe. The company reckons to distribute 5 million full version and prospect catalogues worldwide in 2008 which ought to make a lot of delivery firms very happy. My advice? Keep it in a safe place. Oh, and don't drop it on your foot
