The Chinese electronics market has attracted plenty of flak on the issue of counterfeit components so it is good to report it has established a Reliable Electronic Component Suppliers system (RECS), and chirpy news for Avnet which has become one of the first distributors to be granted certification under RECS .
Essentially the system certifies and authenticates electronic component manufacturers and authorized distributors who provide products from legal and reliable sources. RECS has a clear mission to promote legitimate product sources and educate China electronic purchasers to buy from reliable sources of electronics components while ensuring the reliability and traceability of product sources.
Victor Koh, regional president, Avnet Memec China, said: "The China electronics industry is one of the biggest in the world and a key driver for economic growth in this fast-developing market. It is absolutely essential for continuing success that the industry is able to maintain quality levels, protect intellectual property and ensure customer satisfaction."
"The China electronics industry has come under a black cloud since the rise of counterfeit electronics components, and RECS is a very important step toward raising the quality bar for the industry. As the leading global electronics distributor, we have the responsibility to support this important initiative by the Chinese government. We are delighted to become one of the first certified distributors."
The ultimate goal of the RECS program is to protect intellectual property by reducing counterfeit electronics components, foster the development of brand names and protect the interests of customers, manufacturers and distributors. It will in turn enhance the entire quality management system of the Chinese electronics industry. More information about RECS is available at http://www.cepa.org.cn/ .
