Wow! That's a stellar group of judges Farnell has booked for the 2008 outing of its EDGE awards. Last year's winner John Noble is of course there.
He lines up alongside Steve Sanghi, CEO of Microchip Technologies, Rob Rodin, once a very innovative CEO for Marshall Industries until it was acquired by Avnet and now running his own RDN Group, Indro Mukerjee, CEO of C-MAC (who I recall as disti manager for Hitachi when he were nowt but a lad), Professor Steven DeKrey from Hong Kong University, Paul Goodman at ERA Technology, the font of all knowledge on environmental legislation and representing mainland Europe Wiener Neustadt School of Engineering's Gottfried Ecker. Noble won last year with a design for a highly efficient fan. He has formed a company Torus Technologies to bring the product to market using his cash prize from last year and a huge amount of support from Farnell. The award - EDGE stands for Electronic Design for the Global Environment - is designed to encourage engineers to design environmentally-friendly products using electronic components. First prize is $25,000 cash and a further $25,000 worth of support from Farnell.
