While finding a place where to charge an electric car can still be quite a challenge, Bosch Software Innovations already aims at the next level of infrastructure: A comprehensive open business platform for eMobility.
The eMobility Solution supports and integrates, among others, the following infrastructure processes:
- identification of drivers and charging of electric vehicles (EVs)
billing of energy consumption and services (e.g. connection to ERP system)
- finding and reserving charging stations
- navigating EVs to charging stations
- managing load of charging station groups (demand side management)
- collecting vehicle data for analysing purposes
- operating and maintaining charging infrastructure
- offline operations to ensure reliable charging in the event of connectivity failure in the public network
Since the architecture is open and scalable, the solution can also support other services in the urban area like intermodal mobility concepts or location based services. The »eMobility Core« is the central software component. It operates the charging infrastructure and the stakeholder portals. Business processes for charging, billing and reporting are deployed there.
A portal provides each stakeholder with his relevant view of the charging infrastructure. The portal concept allows enhancements for additional participants. With the help of dynamic applications, stakeholders, such as utility companies, will be able to adapt their portal according to their individual needs, for example test and manage price models for energy provisioning.
A smart phone portal (e.g. iPhone App) offers the driver of the electric vehicle remote information about the charging station locations, the charging process, and the billing details. Furthermore, the interface to the vehicle provides the battery state-of-charge and the travel distance on a map.
Charging Sites
Charging stations include an embedded web-enabled Linux computer that contains the functional logic, e.g. for the charging process and are connected to central servers via internet. This allows for system-wide processes like regular software upgrades, health monitoring etc. The Linux-based component makes it possible to deploy dynamic business models and applications at selective charging stations or the entire charging infrastructure.
