While LIN is the PHY- and protocol-wise the simplest of the currently used bus systems in cars, more often than not analysing systems know more about CAN , Flexray or even MOST than about the uncomplicated two-wire connection.
Ipetronik used to have the same issue - until Peak-System Technik expanded the hardware connectivity of its products to Ipetronik’s measurement data acquisition software IPEmotion . In addition to the already existing support of the CAN hardware, Peak has now implemented a newly developed hardware driver, a so-called M.A.L.-PlugIn (Manufacturer Application Layer) for LIN connections (Local Interconnect Network). Thus users of IPEmotion can also use the LIN channels of the CAN/LIN adapter IPEcan Pro.

IPEcan Pro is a high-speed USB adapter with two D-Sub connectors for connecting a PC to CAN and LIN. Two field busses can be connected at the same time, with up to four connections available using appropriate adapter cables (2 x CAN, 2 x LIN). The adapter is supplied with power via the USB connection. In addition, a 5-volt supply can be engaged on the CAN ports. The high-speed CAN channels comply with the CAN standard ISO 11898-2 with a maximum transfer rate of 1 MBit/s. CAN specifications 2.0A and 2.0B are fulfilled. Each CAN channel is separately opto-decoupled against USB and LIN. The LIN channels comply with the LIN specification 2.1 with a LIN transfer rate of 1 KBit/s to 20 KBit/s. The adapter can be used as a LIN master or slave. Both LIN channels are opto-decoupled against CAN and USB. Its robust aluminum casing makes the IPEcan Pro suitable for mobile applications.
„The ever growing number of new M.A.L.-PlugIns emphasizes the growing acceptance for IPEmotion,“ says Marc Gödde, Sales and Marketing Manager Software at Ipetronik. „More and more hardware suppliers are using IPEmotion as configuration and measurement software and with the free IPEmotion SDK (Software Developer Kit) they are developing hardware drivers which support all advantages of IPEmotion. A valuable support when developing new M.A.L.-PlugIns is provided by the IPEmotion forum, an online communications platform for IPEmotion users to exchange ideas with fellow developers“.
